10 Little Black Dress Styles

If you had to choose just one dress to have in your wardrobe, the little black dress is it.

Let’s start with some non boring history about the iconic LBD.

It was ‘invented’ by none other than Coco Chanel. In the 1920s, her sketch of a little black dress featured in Vogue magazine. The length was mid calf and it was a straight style. From there, its popularity grew and has never let up.

It was initially classified as an evening dress, worn only at night for a special occasion. The style was simple but usually short.

That was then. Now, with fashion boundaries overstepped, lines blurred and the status quo challenged (constantly), the little black dress is so much more than it once was.

It’s supposed to be versatile and something you keep for years. A real classic and another essential piece in a wardrobe.

The perfect little black dress can be dressed up and down, think adding sneakers and a denim jacket, a blazer and boots or a biker jacket.

The LBD never goes out of fashion. It’s an iconic piece and there are so many styles, cuts, lengths and materials, so you are guaranteed to find one that suits you – maybe more!

So these are those 10 LBD styles

A-line

It’s the shape of an A. Fitted at the top and flares out at the bottom. This is ideal if you have a smaller bust and wider hips.

Fit and flare

This one is fitted around the bust and cinches in at the waist, flaring out from there. It’s the most flattering style and differs from the A-line because that doesn’t cinch in at the waist.

Fitted

It’s pretty self explanatory. This style is tight and figure hugging.

Wrap

This is guaranteed to be the most comfortable because you can wrap it as tight or as loose as you want.

There are some wrap dresses that are pre-wrapped, meaning no room to adjust it. This is a great style if you’re pregnant.

Tuxedo

It’s a more formal look and is basically a longer version of a suit jacket. I think this is a really sexy style because it has an element of masculinity and when you pair it with heels, it just screams amazing. It can be fitted or slightly oversized.
