5 Jackets You Need
While it might seem a bit indulgent to NEED to own five jackets, they are all very different and serve very different purposes. They can also completely change up a look.
The benefit of having these five jackets in your wardrobe is they are your staples. The items that never go out of fashion, the classic pieces you will wear for many seasons, mixing and matching with so many other things you own.
Here are those 5 must have jackets
Black blazer
My top pick. It can elevate a look in an instant and a black one is just the most versatile.
Make sure it’s well fitted. That means it should sit nicely on the shoulders and have some structure. Whether you want a fitted blazer that does up or one that hangs open depends on your personal taste. You can have one with military buttons or plain black ones, or even no buttons at all.
A jacket that falls below the hip is more flattering and creates a nice sleek line. If you have a small waist, you might want to pick something that cinches in and if you have a bigger bust, pick a jacket that does up under the bust so it won’t pop open.
Denim jacket
Add this to your outfit if you want to dress it down, going for a more casual look. One that sits around the hip is the traditional length but just because it’s traditional, doesn’t mean it can’t be a little more unique. These two however, are the more classic look.
Leather or faux leather jacket
It adds a bit of an edge to an outfit and gives off a bit of a cool vibe.
It’s sometimes referred to as a biker jacket and usually sits on or just above the hip. I love the mix of leather or faux leather (whichever you prefer) and silver hardware. It has stood the test of time and will continue to be an in style piece.
Trench coat
This one is perfect for that in between weather, when it’s not quite warm enough to bring out the Winter coat. A camel, beige or tan colour is the one you need - it’s the classic. It should be knee length and can be worn with casual or smarter outfits and to work.
A coat
As someone who lives in Canberra when the weather drops below zero in Winter, a coat is essential. It should be warm and lined and usually black but a grey one will stand the style test of time too. Around knee length is the most flattering but if you like it long, you can get one that lingers around the ankle.
I suggest going up a size because you’ll want to wear it on top of other jackets or jumpers and you don’t want it to be too restricting.
