Are Skinny Jeans Coming Back in 2025?
Love them or hate them, skinny jeans could be making a comeback.
They've been making their way down runways, Melania Trump wore a pair in January and so did Gen X influencer Alix Earle.
People are also googling skinny jeans.
I haven't squeezed into a pair of skinny jeans in a long time (except to take the pics for this blog post). I am firmly on the wide leg jeans bandwagon and do not want to get off. They are so much more comfy. I do have friends and style clients who haven't embraced the wide leg look and have stuck to their skinnies. I mean they are a classic style that can absolutely still be worn if you want. They have just been sidelined, put on the bench, shoved to the back of the wardrobe.
So, since they've been spotted on runways and high profile people, does that inevitably mean they'll be spotted on our legs again soon? Should we be preparing for it?
There's been a recent revival (for better or worse) of fashion from the 2000s so it kind of makes sense there's some buzz around skinny jeans.
I recently read a quote from the CEO of Levis who said the re-emergence of the style will look and feel different. That's usually the case when trends and styles from the past re-emerge. It's an improved version - thankfully.
The rejigged skinny leg look will be less tight, specifically around the calf and ankle. It's like it's borrowing a little from the straight leg and capri pant.
Having said that skinnys will be coming back, I think it's safe to say the wide leg isn't going anywhere. I mean what started as a straight leg jean, moved to wide leg, then to super wide leg (not the official term but I have seen jeans and pants get baggier and more loose fitting). As I mentioned, the less clingy fit is comfortable and works just as well with tees and tanks, blazers and cardigans, jumpers and knits.
I have very much enjoyed the freedom of the looser fit and to be honest, I am not sure how to go back. Maybe I won't go back and that'll be fine as well, if you feel the same way.
In terms of what other trends we'll be seeing over the next few months, there'll be a lot of crochet, sheer fabrics and lace, off shoulder tops and a dominant colours will be a deep maroon or wine and chocolate brown in everything from skirts to tops and shoes. Iām also seeing some chatter over shoulder bags vs crossbody bags or ones with longer straps. Think of this one as like the ankle/hidden socks vs crew sock debate. A crossbody bag shows your age - apparently.
I'll keep you posted as more styles make their way into stores as the temperature drops.
