Skinny Jeans vs Non Skinny Jeans

I feel like skinny jeans have been the number 1 denim style for so long.

Yes there have always been options but the skinny seems to have always just been more popular and worn more. We also saw them a lot more on celebrities.

I have purchased many pairs over the years but more recently I’ve opted for something not so skinny and the selection available blew me away.

So I do need to mention I’ve had 2 kids and I don’t remember the last time I went to the gym.

Basically my body is not the same as it was pre kids and maybe one day it will be but in the meantime I need jeans that are a little more forgiving and way more comfortable (to chase kids around - especially my highly energetic three year old son) and that means not so skinny.

I went on a bit of a jeans shopping spree recently, buying 3 new pairs and eyeing off a few more. It’s ok I said that because my hubby won’t read this post haha.

I bought a straight leg pair of jeans from Decjuba that I think are flattering and make me feel good. They’re also less clingy. They’re ones I’d dress down with a t-shirt, sneakers or flats and up with heels and a cute top or shirt. You could even go a crop and blazer if that’s your thing.

Then there are the ripped girlfriend jeans also from Decjuba. It’s a more relaxed fit and superbly comfy. They’re my day to day jeans for running errands, meeting friends and chasing said kids around.

I wear them with t-shirts and sneakers, espadrilles and flats. I’d also throw a blazer on top of a t-shirt for a slightly upgraded look or pair them with a black or white shirt.

The third pair of jeans I bought are ones I never thought I would go for. Wide leg jeans. They’re from Cotton On and I got them in black. They are high waisted and super flattering. I feel great in them.

They don’t make my thighs look 5 sizes bigger which previous pairs I’ve tried on have done. What I love about these is they’re designed for shorties like me so the length is pretty good and they kind of make me look a little taller too. I’d dress these up and down.

So, these are the non skinny jeans in my wardrobe. While I’m not getting rid of my skinny jeans, they’re just not the ones I go as a first thought.

I don’t think it’s just me noticing that the range of non skinny jeans available has exploded. I have definitely seen a more relaxed fit featured on celebs and across my social media.

Now, jeans are a wardrobe staple but maybe it’s time for something new?
