Unisex Dressing: How To Do It Right
There’s a whole other wardrobe that we can tap into. An array of clothes ripe for the picking. Your husband or boyfriends wardrobe is there, ready for you to search through and mentally be putting outfits together.
The uber fashionable Elle Ferguson has been known to steal a jacket or two from her boyfriend and Jesinta Franklin says she loves a men’s white tee more than a woman’s one and has been known to head to her husband’s wardrobe and grab one.
They named a pair of jeans the boyfriend jeans because more women were seemingly after the looser and more relaxed fit.
Unisex dressing isn’t a new phenomenon. Labels have created unites ranges in the past. Zara did it in 2016, H&M in 2017 and Levi’s has a range of unisex jeans.
Raiding a man’s wardrobe is also a way to be a savvy shopper. It gives you more options without having to spend any more money. I’m sure your partner will be happy with that.
And if you are single, there’s no reason not to head into the men’s departments and have a browse. The cut or style might actually fit you a lot better and be more comfortable.
Here are 4 ways to make unisex dressing your own
White shirts
Oversized white shirts are such a cool look. A men’s shirt won’t necessarily sit on the shoulder like a woman’s one. It’ll be bigger and baggier and can work with jeans or leggings and under an oversized blazer or leather jacket.
Roll up the sleeves and add some accessories or a belt for a totally different look - it can even be your partner’s belt!
It can even be one of his black or blue shirts and you can do the same with his white or black t-shirt. Tuck it into jeans or a skirt for that more relaxed fit.
Jackets
Keeping on the oversized theme, we’re still having a love affair with the oversized blazer. It can be a more boxy or baggy fit, sit a little longer or sit off the shoulder.
If you like this look where the seem sits off shoulder, then try on one of your partner’s jackets. It will be bigger and looser and if styled right, won’t make you look bigger.
Think of wearing it with leggings or jeans (skinny ones of more loose fitting) and boots or for that feminine touch, wear heels.
Ties
We’ve been having a moment with head scarves but what about a head tie? Wrap one round your ponytail or through a braid.
Why not wrap one around the handle of a handbag to change that up too.
Sunglasses and Watches
I have been known to be walking out the door and yell out to my hubby ‘i’m taking your sunnies’ to which he mutters something i can’t hear because i’ve already shut the front door.
They look great on him but I like how they look on me too so if he’s not wearing them, then I will to mix it up.
When it comes to watches, we all seem to be going for big faces and most really do look unisex, so you instantly have an extra accessory or two.
