What’s On Trend For Autumn 2024
It's Autumn and there are so many new styles hitting stores and online for the cooler weather. Let's get straight into what I've been seeing.
Suits
Whether it's pants and a waistcoat or pants and a blazer or all three together, the suit is going to be everywhere. What we're also seeing in addition to waist length waistcoats are longer ones which is a trend I'm liking. Wear the waistcoats open or closed and also, wear the suits as separates, giving more outfit options. You can also wear the suit to work with heels or boots or on weekends with sneakers.
Dark denim
Moody midnight blue is what I'm seeing for jeans, shackets, skirts, shirts and jackets. It's the perfect time to dabble in dark denim because it's everywhere and you'll find cheaper alternatives if you're not entirely sold on the trend or don't like spending too much on trend pieces.
Cardigans
This season the cardigans are not the warm chunky style but more thinner material and layering pieces that can be buttoned up or left undone. I am liking the look of buttoning them about halfway down and leaving it open as it falls over the waist.
Boots
Can we thank (or blame) Taylor Swift for this? There are a few cowboy styles out there but also some chunky biker boots with studs and buckles as well as stiletto knee highs. Something for everyone here and they look great with jeans, dresses and skirts - minis, midis and maxis.
Chocolate Brown
It's rich and earthy and I love the colour. It pairs so nicely with denim, white/cream and with a tan trench on top.
Stripes
I'm talking pin striped suits which is such a cool look as well as horizontal stripes on knits, jumpers and cardigans.
Now it's often said that horizontal stripes make you look wider but I don't subscribe to that theory. If you find the right cut of anything, it can be super flattering and the wrong fit will not be. If you love the trend but aren't sure, consider thinner stripes.
Sheer
You can be as daring as you’re comfortable with when it comes to see through fabrics. It can be so feminine but also edgy. Some of the dresses I’ve seen have a slip underneath and then there are the completely sheer tops and cardigans.
What’s Sticking Around
Going nowhere are wide leg pants and jeans. The skinny style is still nowhere to be seen BUT if you love those skinny jeans, then keep wearing them.
You will also always see blazers and trench coats as a light layering piece, moving to heavier coats as Winter comes closer. For a trench I recommend having a tan one as your first one because it is such a classic and goes with everything. If you want to add to your collection, think denim or another classic in black.
I'd love to hear what you're thinking about these trends. My favourites are the suits and stripes. If you ever have a style question, please get in touch. I'm always here to help.
And if you want to update your wardrobe, whether for the upcoming cooler months or you want to build a capsule wardrobe, here is some info about a personal shopping session where after 2 hours, you'll have a whole new wardrobe.
I also do wardrobe makeovers, which is basically a detox of all your clothes, getting rid of what you don't wear and keeping what you do. I also chat to you about ways to create new outfits with what you already have.
