4 Shopping Tips For You
To me, there’s nothing better than going into stores to try on clothes. You’ll know if you love it or hate it and how it makes you feel. You also get to walk out the store with your clothes - no waiting for delivery.
Having said that, online shopping is convenient and gives us access to a whole lot of brands we otherwise wouldn’t get to buy but, it can be frustrating and often hit and miss. I’ve previously written a blog post offering some tips on how to avoid returning more than you keep (you can read that here) but now, here are my 4 tips for shopping in store.
1. Try everything on.
You can’t tell how something will look on you when it’s on the hanger. You can’t tell how the material will drape on your body, what the material will feel like or how the colour will look on you. Most importantly you cannot tell how it’ll make you feel. You have to try everything on to make sure the piece is 100% right for you.
2. If in doubt, go without.
The last thing we want is impulse buying or buying something because it’s just ok. If you’re not entirely sure about something, put it on hold for an hour. If you’re still thinking about it after a little while, then you know you want it. If you’ve forgotten about it, then that tells you everything you need to know about whether that item should come home with you.
3. Trust your instincts
You will know straight away if you love something or hate it. Once you put it on, you’ll know if it looks great. You’ll also know if the fabric itches or if it will require ironing after washing or before you wear it. If these things mean you’ll reach for other things first when you open your wardrobe, then don’t buy it. It’ll be a waste of money.
Also, don’t let the sales people influence your thinking. How you feel in it and what someone else says about how it looks, are very different. Resort to style tip 2 if you’re not sure about something.
4. Get things tailored
As a short person, there are many pairs of pants that are just too long. If the pair of pants or skirt are not quite right, maybe it can be fixed? There’s usually a couple of weeks or even a month after you buy something, before you have to return it so if it’s worth it, you can visit a tailor and see what they can do. Check the return policy first of course.
And if you’re ever after an unbiased second opinion, never know what to buy or where to shop, I can help. I’ll determine the best places to shop for your needs and find you pieces of clothing that’ll elevate your style and update your wardrobe.
