What’s In Style For Spring

Fake Spring gets me everytime. The warm weather tease before the cold returns, but that’s done now so let’s get into the trends and styles I’m seeing for Spring, some of which will linger for Summer too.

Bomber jackets

A favourite style of mine that thankfully is lingering from last season. I love that it sits on the hip to give a bit of shape and can be dressed up and down. They’re great with shorts and short skirts, jeans and pants and over dresses. Such a great versatile piece and something I’ll be wearing even when they’re not on trend anymore.

Colours

Spring usually introduces a lot of extra colour from Winter and Autumn and I’ve seen a lot of sage green. I’m also seeing some bright pink, royal blue, emerald green and chocolate brown. I haven’t seen as much floral as I would have expected but more solid colours and subtle patterns. There’s also a bit of animal print making a reappearance which we saw a couple of seasons ago.

Pants

While the wide leg or looser fit isn’t going anywhere, I’m starting to see more of a straight leg style make it’s way into stores and dare I say it, skinny styles. One main skinny style is the capris. They’re fitted and stop mid calf. I am not a huge fan of this style because, as someone who’s short, it isn’t the most flattering style, cutting my leg off and making me look shorter. I don’t need that.

We’re also seeing less dark denim (although you can absolutely still wear it) and lighter colours, which coincides with the arrival of warmer weather.

Sets

Nothing new here with sets a feature all through Winter but instead of pant sets, we’re seeing skirt sets and minis and oversized blazers.

Mini minis

I’m also seeing a more micro mini come in so a little on the less practical side but still super cute for date night or a night out with the girls.

Long vests

Last Spring and Summer it was a mix of long and short vests but the longer vest is having its moment. You’ll see the long vest and mini look, long vest and long skirt look and what I love is that you can separate sets so they look great on their own for maximum versatility,

This does not mean you can’t wear the short vests in your wardrobe.

90s revival

So many throwbacks to the 90s! Halter neck tops with an open back, lower waisted pants and skirts (google Britney Spears I’m a Slave for you if you need a reference).  I can’t say I am thrilled about this because I am team high waisted all the way and might be able to do a mid rise but nothing on or below the hips.

Now while trends can be great and I am liking a few I’ve seen seeing, remember they come and go (some really quickly) so don’t go spending too much on a trend piece.

I am and always will be team capsule wardrobe and it is so much more beneficial if you invest in staple pieces like black pants, a white shirt, a good pair of jeans and a blazer to name a few. They’ll never go out of fashion and will be mainstays in your wardrobe season after season.

If I can help you build your capsule wardrobe, shop with you to refresh your wardrobe, help you rediscover your style or you need a wardrobe makeover to declutter your closet, get in touch. There’s more info about the style services I offer here.
