Which Hangers You Should Use

The hangers you use is more than just about how they look in your wardrobe.

You've spent your hard earned money on some really great pieces of clothing in your wardrobe.

Your wardrobe is organised nicely and neatly.

Having the right hangers means you'll be able to look after your clothes so you can wear them for years to come. Call it an investment, although you don't have to invest that much.

Here are your choices for the hangers you should and shouldn't use.

Plastic hangers

They're sturdy and keep the shape of your clothes. They're quite slim line which is great if you have a smaller wardrobe. They also often have a groove for tops with spaghetti straps or for the straps inside dresses or shorts that help keep the shape of your pieces. They're also pretty affordable.

I use plastic hangers. I've always used these. I built up my collection as a student living at home so didn't want to spend too much money. Now I have so many of them, it would be a waste to get rid of them.

Velvet

They can also be called flocked hangers. They're lightweight and really slim so you can fit more of them into your wardrobe. The texture means your clothes are less likely to fall off the hangers. They can be pricey but you can definitely get hold of some cheaper ones. I've even seen them at Bunnings.

Wooden

They're sturdy and keep the shape of your clothes. They can also make your wardrobe look a little bit fancy but they take up a lot of space, so are best suited to super size wardrobes. They can also be pricey.

Wire

No. No. No. These are so flimsy and will not under any circumstances keep your clothes in good condition. Please replace these immediately. You are doing your clothes no favours. Selling them should be a crime!

While it's best to hang up as much as you can so you can see what you have (making you more likely to wear it) don't hang up your knits because they'll lose their shape.

If you're short of space, you don't need to hang jeans or anything that won't crease.

I mentioned before the strings inside dresses and some tops and knits. These are great for hanging up anything that might fall off a hanger but if you loop them over the top of the hanger, they help keep the shape of your clothes.

While we're on the topic of wardrobe organisation, if your wardrobe is overflowing with pieces you don't wear, or you open it and think you have nothing to wear, I can help.

I offer a wardrobe makeover in which we take everything out your wardrobe and go through it all, deciding what to keep and what to get rid of. Then everything you want to keep goes back in the wardrobe neatly and all organised. Click here for more info.

I also offer one on one personal shopping sessions if you want to update your wardrobe. There's more info on that here.

If either of those sound like something you need or you have any questions, get in touch.
